The product review of the #01152 Banjo Brothers Large Waterproof Cycling Backpack originally appeared on the website for the Two John’s Podcast.
I ride my bike to work whenever possible. It makes good use of my time & at this time of year, it lets me ride during daylight. On top of that I really enjoy starting & ending my day with some time on the bike, those usually are pretty good days. My typical routine is to pick out my clothes for the office, shoes & everything else, get dressed in cycling clothes, make a little breakfast to take to work, & load up my back pack with all that & my office materials, then it is off to work!

This product review of the Banjo Brothers #01150-w White, Medium Waterproof Cycling Backpack originally appeared on the web site Random3ss December 8, 2009. The review includes a ton of great photos.
I’ll preface this article with the simple statement that I am somewhat of a bag whore, I like bags for specific purposes and they continue to pile up, but they all get used!
More then a year ago I picked up road cycling and shortly thereafter I started to commute to work by pedaling. There are no showers at my job, so I had to take a change of clothing, lunch and a few other things in case I caught a flat, along w/ a pocket full of change. For the time, an existing backpack that I had been using to go to the gym with would due, but there were a few things that I didn’t like about it for cycling.Messenger bags have been the in thing for a few years, whether you rode a bike or not, but I never much liked how they felt and couldn’t get them to sit on my back properly, so backpacks have always been my preferred method of carrying stuff. When the opportunity came up to review the 2010 Commuter Backpack from Banjo Brothers, I was stoked!

Banjo Brothers 2008 Medium Messenger Bag by Dennis Bean-Larson, Fixed Gear Gallery.
Wow, it’s been almost two years since we first reviewed a Messenger Bag from the Banjo Brothers. While we liked that first bag, it looks like the Brothers took most of our comments pretty seriously back then – for this new bag has eliminated the few shortcomings and added a whole bunch of value besides.
While many people apparently thought that Banjo’s 2,000 cu in bag was too big, we really thought it was too small. In all fairness, we 6’0″ guys are going to use a bigger bag than you 5’5″ women. You may remember (all of our bag reviews are still on line btw – check the Product Review Archives) back in ’06 we were reviewing mostly 2,500 cu in bags and Banjo’s bag at 2,000 cu just didn’t hold as much stuff as Nils and I were cartin’ around. Stuff like Nils’ steel-toed boots for example. There was nothing wrong with the bag – just it was 2,000 cu in that’s all.

Banjo Brothers Commuter Backpack = Tres Awesome
I have the most overfunctioning alarm clock in the whole world. It does all of the following things, none of which am I making up.
It uses the atomic clock radio signal to get the time. I guess there’s an atomic clock somewhere (Boulder, CO, right?) and — as a public service provided by someone who thinks it’s very, very important for us to all keep our timepieces synchronized — the to-the-nanosecond-accurate time is broadcast via radio. My alarm clock uses this radio signal to tell what time it is. It’s very confidence-inspiring.
It knows both the inside and outside temperature. My clock came with a remote thermometer that can broadcast back to the clock. I have this thermometer taped to a fence in the backyard.
It projects the time and outside temperature onto the ceiling. The reason I actually bought this clock is because I like to know what time it is when I wake up in the middle of the night, without having to squint my near-sighted eyes. This clock projects the (accurate to one nanosecond) time and (nowhere near as accurate but close enough to give you a decent idea) outside temperature in 8″-tall letters onto the ceiling right above my head, where I can see them, no matter how bleary and unfocused my eyes are in the middle of the night.

This review of the Banjo Brothers #01110 Waterproof Pannier originally appeared on the UrbanVelo.or blog in April of 2008. The panniers are sold in single units. A pair will generally run under $100.
Last summer I fell in love with overnight camping trips on the local rail-trail system and decided it was time to purchase some waterproof panniers for the travels. Not as easy as it seems, there aren’t terribly many economical choices for simple, waterproof bags suitable for light touring and commuting duties. Banjo Brothers markets their Waterproof Pannier as a commuting and grocery getting bag, and warned me that it may not be the best at touring duties and to expect what you will from a $40 bag.
The bags are simple – waterproof inner, nylon outer. Roll top closure makes a watertight seal when buckled down. I don’t really need pockets on panniers, just a big waterproof bucket and thats exactly what this is. Simple, with reflective piping to keep things safe. Want to roll with some brews on ice? The sealed seams of the waterproof liner work both ways.
Banjo Brothers is dead wrong about not being up to touring duty.
